Caring for All Creation

Blog: May is Mental Health Month • The Big Red Church of Fresno

A blog post on the Big Red Church of Fresno website with my personal experience with mental health and stigma, and information and resources available via the UCC Mental Health Network.

  • Maintaining a basic understanding of mental health and wellness
    • Distinguishes “normal” from “pathological” behavior, and knows one’s own limits as a provider of pastoral care.
    • Identifies and uses community resources for one’s own personal and professional wellness.
    • Refers constituents to community mental health resources as needed

Worship with Grace Community Church

When shelter-in-place was put into effect, I had already signed on to provide pulpit supply during Lent and Easter at Grace Community Church in North Fork, CA. We didn’t have access to their website when it first started, so I offered to post church online on my own site. (I have since been in contact with the person who manages the website and have been cross-posting worship services on both until I am sure everyone knows to visit the church website at 10:30 on Sunday morning.) Grace Community Church has opted to have an asynchronous, at your own pace style worship experience because it works best with varying levels of technology, internet speed, and comfort with using platforms like Zoom. In this, you can see the evolution of our services from the first few weeks to what we offered in early May, 2020. After May 10, 2020 all worship links would be exclusively found on the Grace Community Church website. I am currently providing pulpit supply, as well as updating the website and providing pastoral care when needed, through the end of August, 2020 to maintain continuity and keep people connected during this difficult time.

  • Providing hope and healing to a hurting world.
    • Plans and leads services of lament, healing, and hope.
    • Shows up in solidarity in the midst of a struggle.
